Washington Wizards
Sportsbook.com Wizards Odds to win NBA title – 60/1
Key players added – John Wall, Yi Jianlian, Kirk Hinrich, Josh Howard
Key players lost – None (team was gutted in mid-season)

Things got so bad for the Wizards last season that fans nationwide actually started pulling for them. With the Gilbert Arenas gun issue and the death of respected owner Abe Pollin, the Wiz were forced to basically start from scratch, in mid-season.

They’ve actually done a decent job of it and will build the team around top draft choice John Wall, who many say could even better than Derrick Rose. We’ll see about that, but in the meantime coach Flip Saunders will have some fun putting all the pieces back together.

Washington would have loved to send Arenas and his gun collection as far away as possible, but his radioactive contract prevented that, so the Wizards will ride things out until the contract expires in a few years. Arenas will still start, but he’ll have to move to the 2 because the offense will start (and in some cases end) with Wall.

Hopefully for the next 10 years or so, at which point Arenas will be long gone. Online Sports Betting at Sportsbook

The mid-season deals involving Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood officially signaled the beginning of the out-with-the-old guard movement. It also opened the door for Andray Blatche, who no one had ever heard of but showed late last season that he will be a player in this league.

Whether Blatche can do it from the opening bell and not just against teams playing out the string will be a key for the Wizards’ front line, but he’ll at least get heavy minutes until he shows that he can’t get it done.

Washington has also done a decent job repairing its bench on the fly. Kirk Hinrich has logged big minutes in the league, Josh Howard may be slipping but hopefully has some game left, and there’s some hope for Yi Jianlian if the Wizards can get him to play hard (the Bucks and Nets couldn’t).

Surprising stat: Due to injuries and last season’s suspension, Arenas has gone five straight years without finishing a season on the court.
Strengths: The bench looks above average and Wall looks like he’s legit (and coachable).
Weaknesses: Defensively the front line has some problems.
Playoffs? Why not? If things break right they could catch a lot of teams by surprise and grab the 7th or 8th seed in the East.
