Kurt Busch became the third driver this season with multiple wins in a Sprint Cup point race with his victory at Michigan two weeks ago. Dale Earnhardt Jr. ended-up second and Martin Truex Jr. was once again right in the mix with a third-place finish.

The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s Toyota-Save Mart 350 based on betting odds provided by Bovada.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

I have been betting on Jeff Gordon off and on all season long to start winning races and this could be the week as a 5/1 favorite in this Sunday’s event.

The No. 24 car did not earn those lofty odds based on current form with just two top-five finishes all season long, but there is some tremendous value in this number when you look back at Gordon’s performance at this track.

Using some of his past experience in open-wheel racing, he has been able to claim the checkered flag five times on this course during his storied career in Sprint Cup racing. I happen to think that No. 6 is right around the corner after he finished second at Sonoma in each of the past two seasons.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

If you are going to pick a winner this week given such different driving conditions, they why not go with someone that has won at Sonoma in the recent past?

Despite making his way into the top five in just one previous Sprint Cup race this season, that is why I am going with Carl Edwards at 10/1 to successfully defend last season’s victory on this course.

It was the No. 99 car’s only Sprint Cup win in 2014, which was enough to land this team into the Chase. Edwards adds even more value to these odds with a finish of third or better in three of his last four races at Sonoma.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

Stretching value in the odds on a longshot is one thing on an oval track, but this becomes even more of a reach given this week’s venue. I decided to shoot for the stars on a wild hunch by going with Paul Menard at 40/1 odds to win this week.

Drivers such as Brad Keselowski at 25/1 and Dale Earnhardt Jr. at 33/1 would have made decent picks, but I think that Menard’s versatility as a driver adds some value to his odds.

The No. 27 car is ranked 12th in the current Sprint Cup standings with 421 total points on the strength of four previous top-10 finishes, but hunch is based solely on Menard’s fifth-place finish in last year’s race.
