Cheez-It 355 Gambling Preview

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series heads to Watkins Glen International this week for the second and final road course race on the 2014 schedule.

NASCAR Sprint Cup- Cheez-It 355 at the Glen Preview and Prediction
Race: Chez-It 355 at the Glen, Watkins Glen International
Date: Sunday, August 10, 2014
Time: 1 p.m. (ET)
Broadcast: ESPN
Bovada

The Cheez-It 355 at the Glen is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. and the race will be broadcast nationally on ESPN.

It has been a year to remember for Dale Earnhardt Jr. at Pocono after sweeping the two- race series with a victory this past Sunday. Kevin Harvick took second in that race and Joey Logano finished third.

The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s race based on odds provided by Bovada.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

Brad Keselowski won the Sprint Cup title in 2011 and he has returned to form with three point-race victories and six additional top-five finishes this season that has the No. 2 car sitting pretty in third place in the standings with 687 points.

This team has been opened as 6/1 second-favorites to add another checkered flag to the resume this Sunday and for good reason. Not only does Keselowski come into this race in excellent overall form, he has finished second at Watkins Glen for the past three seasons.

This should work to keep his motivation level high for this year’s event.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

Given the nature of this road course you are going to find some high-profile drivers with longer odds.

Case-in-point is Jimmie Johnsons’ 10/1 odds to win this race. Current form is working against the No. 48 team with just two top-10 finishes in its last six point races after winning three of four Sprint Cup races from late-May through mid-June.

It also does not help that Johnson has not won a Sprint Cup race on this track during his storied career, but he did finish third twice and he is coming off an eighth-place finish in last year’s race at the Glen.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

Taking things one step further with some of the top Sprint Cup drivers’ odds for this race, I am going with the series’ hottest driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr. as my longshot pick this week at 40/1.

He has now won three times this season and the No. 88 car is currently second in the standings with 740 points.

The only reason for the long odds is a less than stellar performance that this track in the past.

Junior’s average finishing position here is 23.2 and he has not cracked the top 10 since 2005, but that was then and this is now.

Sometimes in sports betting you just have to stick with the hot hand no matter how long the odds.
