The Busch brothers have dominated the last two weeks of Sprint Cup racing with Kurt following up Kyle’s win at Fontana with a rare win of his own last Sunday at Martinsville. Jimmie Johnson led the way for most of this race but he faded to second and Dale Earnhardt Jr. remained hot by taking third.

The following is a look at my top favorite, contender and longshot to win this Sunday’s race based on odds provided by Sportsbook.

The Favorite (odd of less than 10/1)

It is only a matter of time before defending Sprint Cup Champion Jimmie Johnson wins his first this season and as a +500 favorite it could easily come this Sunday. The No. 48 car led last week’s race for 296 laps, but when push came to shove it did not have the juice hold off a faster No. 41 car for the win.

The team is now in ninth place in the Sprint Cup standings under the new rule where victories move you to the front of the pack. It has placed in the top five twice and the top 10 twice and is just 18 points off the lead.

Johnson adds even more value to his odds with a victory in the second race at Texas in 2012 and 2013 wrapped around a sixth-place finish in this race last season.

The Contender (odds from 10/1 to 19/1)

Dale Earnhardt Jr. is off to the best start of his Sprint Cup career with a win at Daytona followed by three more top-three finishes in his first six races.

The No. 88 team reclaimed the top spot in the standings with last week’s run and it now has a total of 227 points on the year. Junior has been opened at +1200 to become the first two-time winner this season.

Texas has not been one of his favorite tracks over the years and while he is coming off a 29th-place finish in last year’s race, he rallied to finish second in the fall race at this track in 2013.

The Longshot (odds 20/1 or greater)

The last time I went with Carl Edwards as my longshot he came through with a victory at Bristol so I am going back to that well this week with his odds to win set at +2000.

The No. 99 car is in second place in the standings with 217 points with another top-five finish at Las Vegas to go along with two other finishes in the top 10.

What really adds the value to these odds is a third-place finish at Texas in last year’s race. Edwards has three career Sprint Cup victories at this track including a sweep of both races in 2008.
