NASCAR Sprint Cup Aaron’s 499 Preview and Prediction

Betting ON Aaron’s 499 Gambling Odds

The NASCAR Sprint Cup series heads to Alabama this week to one of the most fabled tracks in the history of stock car racing for the Aaron’s 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Race: Aaron’s 499
Date: Sunday, May 6, 2012
Time: 1 p.m. (ET)
Broadcast: FOX

Sunday’s race is set to get underway at 1 p.m. and it will be broadcast nationally on FOX.

Kyle Busch jump-started his season last Saturday night with his fourth-straight victory in the spring race at Richmond, while Dale Earnhardt Jr. posted a second-place finish and Tony Stewart ended-up third.

The following is a closer look at our favorite, contender, and longshot for this Sunday’s race along with their current odds to win as provided by Bovada.

The Favorite (odds of less than 10/1)

It has been quite awhile since Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s last victory in a Sprint Cup point race but at 8/1 this race could be his best chance to finally end that streak that began back in the 2008 season. He is off to his best start in recent memory with seven top-10 finishes in the first nine races including four finishes in the top five.

Junior has the No.88 car in second-place in the Sprint Cup standings with 333 points and just five points out of first. He finished fourth in this race last season to post his ninth career top five finish at Talladega, including five checkered flags.  [ad-8757089]

The Contender (odds of 11/1 to 19/1)

Since his forgettable 42nd-place finish in this year’s Daytona 500, Jimmie Johnson has finished no higher than 12th in his next eight races and has ended-up sixth or better in the last three to guide the No.48 car to sixth place in the standings with 314 points Johnson is still looking for his first win of the year and has been opened at 14/1 to notch one on Sunday.

Adding value to these odds is the fact that he comes into this race as the defending champion to go along with eight other top-10 finishes at this track.

The Longshot (odds of 20/1 or higher)

With no dominant favorite in this race, there is value to be found in some of the drivers with longer odds this week.

The one at the top of this list is Jeff Burton at 20/1. The No.31 car is mired in 20th place the point standings, but he does have fifth-place finish at Daytona and a sixth-place finish at Bristol on this season’s resume.

Burton finished second in the fall race at Talladega last season and has a total of 14 top-10 finishes at this track over the course of his career.
