Toronto Blue Jays vs. Tampa Bay Rays Gambling Odds & MLB Free Prediction

Blue Jays vs Rays Baseball Picks

There is no doubt about it, the Jays are reeling. They have coughed up their lead in the AL East and injuries are mounting, most recently to Adam Lind, whose misdiagnosis of a foot injury has caused some awkward organizational concerns.

Toronto

This is not the team that dominated in May and now they are facing their nemesis in a place they have struggled to win for years.

They are trying to get into the All-Star break with some shred of momentum but it is going to be tough.

While the team has struggled starter Mark Buehrle has struggled right along with them. His early numbers were clearly not sustainable but he has been giving them a chance to win pretty much every time out and there is no reason to think that is going to change.

He has had success against Tampa this season, in the season opening series he shut them out for 8 innings at the Trop.

Tampa Bay

While the Jays have been struggling the Rays have been making up ground.

They have won 7 of their last 10 and are 18-10 since June 10. Part of that is getting healthy on the pitching side of things but like Toronto they have a number of regulars out of the lineup, most notably Wil Myers who they were hoping would take a big step in year 2.

Most importantly it looks like the Rays are not going to be sellers this season, at least not yet. So David Price and Ben Zobrist will stay put for now.

Chris Archer is still prone to some excuse me starts but the has been solid over the last couple of months.

In 8 of his last 10 outings he has given up 2ER or less including a road loss to the Blue Jays when they were the hottest thing going in the Majors.

He did not take the decision that night and thus still has a perfect 2-0 record against the Jays. He has been superb at home this season with an ERA of just 2.22.

There is every reason to bet against Toronto right now but my gut is saying they will win one game in this series and I think this will be it. Either way I like the over in this one. On paper it is a good pitching matchup but I just don’t see these guys trading zeroes for 7 innings.

One of these teams will put up some crooked numbers.

Total prediction:  Over
Score prediction:  Toronto 6 – Tampa Bay 5
