Pitchers Report for Thursday September 24th

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going today. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests. Another POD loser, I really do not know what has gone wrong, but I am going to make an adjustment and change a few things.

Yesterday, I told you Hamels had the best shot to win and Lidge blew the save. I told you the cold starter with the best shot at a rebound was Chad Billingslea and he came back and the Dodgers lost late 5-4 to the Nationals, but he did pitch well going 6 IP 3 ER & 9K’s.

Thursday we will have a total of nine pitchers that fall into the hot starter criteria and a total of two pitchers that fall into the cold starter criteria. I’m feeling good about my POD’s again that have been 103-51 this year! Yesterday, I took the Reds behind Homer Bailey and they cruised to a 12-2 win!

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers:

Clay Buchholz (Red Sox)

Could Buchholz be the third starter in the playoffs? I doubt it because of his experience, but he has been pitching like the Red Sox third best starter. With Dice-K just fresh off the injured list and Paul Byrd being Paul Byrd and Wakefield looking like he’s still injured I think you will see a lot of Buchholz in the playoffs.

Bet at 5Dimes

Buchholz has looked great as of late hence making this list. In his last 5 starts he has a .93 WHIP with a 1.57 ERA. The Red Sox have won each of his last 7 starts and they are 5-2 in his 7 road starts. He will be pitching at Kansas City where he struggled last time going 6 innings and giving up 4ER, but I think he’ll pitch much better as he is not the same pitcher he was in early August. He will go up against a LHP in Dusty Hughes making his 2nd start and it’s not a good situation for Huges as the Red Sox just kill LHP.

IN their last 5 they have a .370 average and are scoring 9.37 runs per 9 innings vs. LHP. On the road this season their average is +0.35 and their runs per 9 is +1.44 vs. LHP compared to their averages vs. RHP. I would fear to fade the Red Sox against any kind of LH starter never mind an inexperienced one like Huges. That is why the sports betting line has the Red Sox as -200 favorites.

Notables – Last 5 Starts!

Bronson Arroyo (2-1, 1.02 WHIP, 2.23 ERA)
Vincente Padilla (3-0, 1.28 WHIP, 2.96 ERA)
J.A. Happ (1.33 WHIP, 2.84 ERA)
Jeff Suppan (2-2, 1.24 WHIP, 2.35 ERA)
Ryan Dempster (3-1, 1.25 WHIP, 2.29 ERA)
Scott Feldman (4-1, 1.02 WHIP, 2.51 ERA)
Felix Hernandez (4-0, 0.89WHIP, 1.18 ERA)
Brett Anderson (3-1, 1.10 WHIP, 2.90 ERA)

Most likely to sustain and win:

Clay Buchholz

Probable Cold Starting Pitchers:

Ricky Romero (Blue Jays)

Romero is just one of two starting pitchers that have an ERA over 6.00 in their last 5 starts and the other starter Richard I like him to rebound against the Rockies! Romero has a 2.01 WHIP and a 6.04 ERA in his last 5 starts. It must be something in the water in Toronto that causes you to play significantly worse in the 2nd half of a season, because Romero like his teammate Richmond who was on the list last night has a terrible post All Star ERA.

After starting the year with a 3.00 ERA pre All Star break he has come back with a 5.82 ERA since the All Star break. It has not been pretty and it won’t be any more likely that he gets the win when he goes up against the Mariners and Felix Hernandez on Thursday.

He does have a few things going for him and those are Seattle was just in Tampa Bay last night now they come all the way up to Toronto to play here and I think they might be a little exhausted to face a LH starter whom they are 1-4 against in their last 5 road starts vs. LH starters.

Notables – Last 5 Starts!

Clayton Richard (1-2, 1.62 WHIP, 6.00 ERA)

Most likely to rebound: Clayton Richard
