Thursday’s “Need To Know”

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going on Thursday. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests.

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers going on Thursday:

Dallas Braden (Oakland Athletics)

Braden has been solid this season with a line of 7-7, 3.12ERA on the season. He has a quality start in 9 of his last 10 starts. Of course the definition of a quality start is 6IP 3ER. He has yet to allow more than three runs in any of these games. In eight out of the ten he has allowed 2 runs or fewer. He’ll be going up against the Angels and Ervin Santana who has struggled since coming off the DL.

Over Bradens last 5 starts he has a 2.59ERA with a 1.05 WHIP. I really like the way this kid has thrown and I’m not sure if I will have a sports pick on them on Thursday or not, but look for Braden to continue his success in the 2nd half of the season.

Wandy Rodriguez (Houston Astros)

Even though we have Wandy Rodriguez as a hot starter my sports betting advice would be to fade him in this situation. The reason is that he has not pitched well on the road and he will be pitching at the best team in the National League in the Dodgers on Thursday night.

Wandy has a 8-6 record and a 2.96 ERA on the season he is coming of arguably his best start of the year. At **home the key word here, he pitched a complete game against the Pirates gave up 0ER and had 11K’s on just 5 hits. His home ERA dipped to 2.00 while his road ERA is nearly two runs higher at 3.83. In his last two starts on the road he has pitched well going 7 inning in each and gave up 1ER in each. The under may be a better bet if you look at this game at all because Randy Wolf will be on the other side.

Notables – Last 5 Starts!

Randy Wolf (Dodgers, 1-1, 1.30WHIP, 3.58ERA)
Aaron Cook (Rockies, 3-0, 1.38WHIP, 3.31ERA)

Probable Cold Pitchers on Thursday:

Ervin Santana (L.A. Angels)

Santana probably should have stayed on the DL. Since coming off the DL he is 0-2 in 9 innings pitched giving up 9ER. You got to think he’s going to have a quality start sooner rather than later. The Angels are 8-1 in their last 9 as underdogs.

In 4 starts in 2008 against the A’s Santana carried a 3-1 record and a 1.33ERA giving up a total of 4ER in 27 innings pitched. Look for Santana to at least go into the game with some confidence.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Cliff Lee (Indians, 0-3, 1.57WHIP, 5.40ERA)
Derek Lowe (Braves, 1.80WHIP, 5.40ERA)
Rich Harden (Cubs, 1-3, 1.93WHIP, 7.40ERA)
