San Diego

The most exciting thing going on at Petco these days is wondering whether guys like Carlos Quentin and starter Edinson Volquez will still be on the club at the end of the month.  The only lucky thing for SD this season is that Colorado is right there with them at the bottom of the standings.  It can be lonely down there.

The Padres are dead last in the Majors in scoring.  Which unfortunately for Volquez has meant that no matter how well he pitches it hasn’t been good enough.  The righthander was sharp heading into the break giving up just 2ER in this last three starts while the team won all three games though.  Against the Dodgers however it has been a different story as the Fathers are 0-3 when he has taken the hill against their SoCal rivals. Los Angeles

The Dodgers have really been struggling for a month but still escaped the All-Star break a half game lead over the Giants.  Sure they might have been playing over their heads but more than anything this team just needs some healthy bodies.  Without sluggers Matt Kemp and Andre Ethier their lineup has become pretty pathetic.  In their last 10 they have scored more than 4 runs just once and are barely above San Diego in the offensive department.

Los Angeles has the league’s second best pitching thanks to renaissance performances from guys like Chris Capuano and Saturday starter Aaron Harang.  Harang won his last start before the break by limiting the Reds to just a run and has been very sharp at home with an ERA of just 2.80.  Last year he was with the Padres but has shown them no sympathy by beating them twice already this season.

O/U Pick:  Under
Score Prediction:  Los Angeles 2 – San Diego 1
