The Cards dropped the opener in the series last night and enter the day tied with Pittsburgh, second in the NL Central. It is going to be a tremendous battle over the next 6 weeks and the key is going to be which teams takes advantage of their schedule from here on out.

The Cardinals have lost 3 of their last 4 and need to get right as they play their next 6 games against teams with below .500 records before a series with Cincinnati that could knock one of those teams out.
Adam Wainwright is having another fantastic season though it is kind of getting lost amidst the complete and utter domination by some other hurlers this season.
Be that as it may he is tied for the MLB lead in victories with 14 and is 5th in the Majors in ERA at 2.28.
What is amazing is how much success he has been having on the road this season – he is 9-3 with an ERA under 2. There is a reason he started the All-Star game over Kershaw.

Miami
The Marlins held on last night against St. Louis, inching ever closer to the struggling Braves. Still this club is not really in the playoff hunt but they could get to .500 if they can take the remaining two games of this series.
Giancarlo Stanton has been on a major power surge lately with 2 homers last night and 5 in his last 5 games. His 31 dingers are now tied for the MLB lead and he is making a serious push for MVP consideration in the NL.
After a strong rookie season Jared Cosart had to be a bit surprised to be dealt to the Marlins this season. Regardless of where he is now he was not having the same kind of success that he did last season but it is too early to tell whether these are growing pains for whether the league has already caught up to him.
He has made one start since joining the Marlins and it was far from great, taking the loss against the Reds.

Adam Wainwright is one of the best pitchers in the Majors but just as important he is one of the best winners in the league too.
The Cards are 17-6 when he takes the hill this season and against the Marlins, in a spot where the Cards really need a win I am not going to bet against him.
There just isn’t a ton of value there though.
