Total: Over/Under 7.5

The Colorado Rockies head east to Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia for a four game weekend series against the Phillies with Game 1 scheduled for tonight at 7:05 P.M.

Colorado comes into this series reeling a bit as they have lost five out seven games since the All-Star break. The Rockies are currently 51-44 and are 4 ½ games behind San Diego in the NL West. They are 20-28 SU on the road and are 11-23 ATS as an underdog. Against the over/under line they have gone 43-49-2. The total has stayed under in four of Colorado’s last six games in Philadelphia.

Right hander Aaron Cook will be on the mound tonight for the Rockies. In 18 starts this season, he has gone 4-5 and has an ERA of 4.56. In his last outing he pitched seven strong innings giving up six hits and no earned runs in a win over Cincinnati. Cook is 1-5 with a 5.70 ERA lifetime against the Phils.

Despite their recent woes, Colorado’s bats have remained productive as it is ranked third in the NL with a .264 team batting average and 456 total runs scored for an average of 4.8 runs per game. Carlos Gonzalez leads the team with 105 hits, 61 RBI’s, 17 HR’s.

Philadelphia has had problems of their own since the break losing six of their last eight games. The Phillies are starting to fade in the NL East as they are now 49-46, a full seven games in back of surging Atlanta. They are 27-18 SU at home and are 35-31 ATS as the favorite. Against the over/under line they have gone 43-49-2.

Phillies ace Roy Halladay will look to get back on track after a rough going his last time out. For the season he is 10-8 in 20 starts and has a 2.40 ERA. In his last game he uncharacteristically gave up seven hits and five earned runs in just six innings of work in a loss to the Cubs. Lifetime against the Rockies he is 1-0 with a 1.17 ERA.

Consistency at the plate continues to plague the Phillies as they are ranked 11th in the NL with a team batting average of .254. They are ranked sixth in the league in runs scored with 437. Ryan Howard continues to be their biggest force with 75 RBI’s and 22 HR’s. Shane Victorino is second with 53 RBI’s and 15 HR’s.

Both of these teams are desperately in need of some wins to keep pace with leaders in their respective divisions. Philadelphia has won seven out of the last 10 games between the two and three out of five at home. With Halladay on the mound the advantage in this game has to go to the Phillies as it is highly doubtful he will pitch two bad games in a row.
