The Cincinnati Reds continue their four game series against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia with Game 2 tonight starting at 7:05 P.M.

After losing Game 1 in 12 innings last night, Cincinnati will look to even the series with a win tonight. With the first half of the season coming to a close, the Reds are currently 49-38 and have a three game lead over St. Louis in the NL Central. They are 22-19 SU on the road and 25-21 ATS as an underdog. Against the over/under line they are 42-37-7.

Right hander Mike Leake gets the start tonight for the Reds. In 16 previous starts the rookie is 6-1 with an ERA of 3.38. In his last outing he pitched six innings giving up eight hits and three earned runs in a win over the Cubs. In his only start against the Phillies he gave up seven hits and six earned runs in six innings of work.

Cincinnati’s bats continue to pace this club as they are ranked first in the NL in team batting average (.273) and runs scored (430), averaging 4.94 runs per game. They have three players in their lineup with 55 or more RBI’s led by Joey Votto’s 60. Votto also leads the team with 22 HR’s.

With last night’s win, Philadelphia is now 4-6 SU in their last 10 games and has an overall record of 44-40; 5 ½ games in back of Atlanta in the NL East. The Phillies are 24-18 SU at home and 30-30 ATS as a favorite. In their last 10 games against the Reds, the total has stayed under in five of them.

Joe Blanton will be on the mound tonight for Philadelphia. For the year, he is 3-5 with a 6.27 ERA in 12 starts. In his last outing he lasted 6.1 innings giving up six hits and five earned runs against the Pirates. Lifetime against the Reds he is 2-0 with an ERA of 3.92.

The Phillies lineup continues to battle through injuries as both Placido Polanco and Chase Utley are spending time on the DL. They are currently ranked 11th in the NL with a team batting average of .257. Their 399 runs scored; an average of 4.75 per game ranks them fifth in the league. Ryan Howard leads the team with 98 hits, 62 RBI’s, and 16 HR’s.

Philadelphia is 11-5 SU in their last 16 games against Cincinnati, including going 5-1 at home in the last six. Even though the Reds have struggled on the road against this team, they have a good chance of tagging Blanton with some early runs and holding on to even this series at a game apiece.
