He’s been lights-out so far, holding opponents to a .154 average and winning all four of his decisions. He’s been just as good away as he’s been at home. Even though he has a 5.30 career ERA against Detroit, I have to think that stat reflects the previous version of Hughes.
Detroit hasn’t seen this one yet.
Jeremy Bonderman is on the opposite end of the spectrum.
Whereas Hughes is a former prospect who’s finally making it, Bonderman is a former top-end starter whose career is down in the dumps. 
He hasn’t looked like much of a pitcher for several seasons, including this one.
Worse yet, he’s 3-7 all-time against the Bronx Bombers with a 5.55 ERA and 11 homers allowed over 71.1 innings.
Alex Rodriguez and Derek Jeter have his number, combining for five homers and 12 RBI over 59 plate appearances.
Even if Hughes returns to Earth a bit, I can’t recommend the Tigers with Bonderman on the hill.
