The games have been tight but Pittsburgh keeps losing. Can things change in this closeout game?

Pittsburgh

Instead of making up any ground in this series all the Pirates are proving is that they, just like everybody else, can’t beat the Cardinals at Busch Stadium. Usually they play one run games but last night they actually lost by two. Even though it will be a series loss a win in the third game would be a boost.

Additionally the Pirates need a win because things don’t get much easier when they leave St. Louis and head to NYC to take on the Mets. The offense has scored just five runs over two games. They probably need to get that tonight if they want to win.

While most pitchers are better at home it has been the opposite with Francisco Liriano this season and the Bucs are going to need it as they have had trouble solving St. Louis ad Busch Stadium. He has made three starts against the Cards this season and true to form his best and longest was on the road where he gave up just 3 hits over eight innings in a loss. Perhaps this time he will have better luck.

St. Louis

The Cardinals continue to roll, over the Pirates, and the league in general. If they are able to complete the sweep of the Pirates tonight it seems inconceivable that there are enough games left in the season for them not to win the NL Central Division title.

St. Louis does not overwhelm they just win. They are missing some key bats in Matt Holliday, Jon Jay and Matt Adams but it seems to matter because no matter how few runs their offense scores their tremendous pitching gives up one less. They are still waiting on contributions from newly acquired Brandon Moss – he is hitting just .156

All Lance Lynn does is win. The Cards are 13-8 in his starts this season and he is tracking for another very good season. He may get a little lost because he isn’t flashy but backed by a team like the Cardinals have he is very tough to beat. Against Pittsburgh this season he is 1-1, dominating at home and losing on the road. No real surprise there.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • PIT are 47-23 in their last 70 overall.
  • PIT are 47-23 in their last 70 games on grass.
  • Under is 16-5-3 in Lirianos last 24 road starts.
  • STL are 16-5 in their last 21 Thu. games.
  • STL are 56-19 in their last 75 home games.
  • Under is 14-5-1 in STL last 20 Thu. games.
  • Over is 7-2 in Lynns last 9 home starts vs. PIT.

4* MLB Betting Prediction:

For so many reason the Pirates really need Liriano to step and pitch them to victory tonight.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction:  Pittsburgh 4 – St. Louis 3

Of course this one is going to be close but take the extra value with Pittsburgh not leaving empty handed.
