The Philadelphia Phillies travel cross state to PNC Park in Pittsburgh for a four game Holiday weekend series with the Pirates starting tonight at 7:05 P.M.

After dropping two out of three to Cincinnati this week Philadelphia finished the month of June with an overall record of 41-35 and are 3 ½ games in back of Atlanta in the NL East. They are 6-4 in their last 10 but just 3-3 in their last six. The Phillies are 19-19 SU on the road and 29-24 ATS as the favorite. Against the over/under line they are 35-39-1. The total has stayed under in nine of their last 12 games against the Pirates.

Cole Hamels will be on the mound tonight for Philadelphia. On the year he is 6-6 with a 4.80 ERA in 15 starts. In his last outing he only lasted four innings giving up seven hits and five earned runs in a loss to Toronto. Lifetime against Pittsburgh he is 1-0 with an ERA of 3.79.

The Phillies lineup has taken a hit as of late as both Chase Utley and Placido Polanco have been put on the 15 day DL. Overall they are ranked ninth in the NL with a team batting average of .259 and sixth in runs scored with 365, an average of 4.80. Ryan Howard leads the team with 89 hits, 55 RBI’s, and 15 HR’s.

Pittsburgh comes into this series on a bright note after a 2-0 win over the Cubs yesterday afternoon, but other than that it has been a pretty dismal season so far. The Pirates are 27-51 overall, 17 games out of first in the NL Central. They are 16-19 SU at home but a horrible 23-48 ATS as an underdog.

Against the over/under line they are 33-39-5 with the total going over in seven of their last 10 games at home.

Right hander Daniel McCutchen is back in the Pirates rotation as he fills in tonight for the injured Zach Duke. In four previous starts this season he is 0-3 with an ERA of 11.0. In his last outing he lasted six innings giving up seven hits and four earned runs in a loss to Oakland. Tonight will be his first career start against the Phillies.

Pittsburgh’s offensive production has been non-existent this season.

They are ranked last in the Majors in team batting average (.237) and runs scored (250). In 78 games they are only averaging 3.2 runs per game, the worst in the league.

The Phillies come into this game with two of their best players currently on the shelf, but given the fact they have beaten Pittsburgh seven of the last 10 times they have played and the Pirates are just dreadful this year, the odds are in heavily in their favor they can pull out a win tonight.
