Philadelphia: 93-63 SU
Washington: 67-89 SU

The Philadelphia Phillies wrap up the final week of the regular season starting with a three game series against the Washington Nationals. Game 1 from Nationals Park is scheduled for tonight at 7:05 p.m.

Philadelphia’s 7-3 loss to the Mets yesterday kept the team from clinching the NL East but it has a chance to clinch tonight with a win or an Atlanta loss. The Phillies are 93-63 overall and 39-33 straight up on the road. As the favorite, the Phillies are 70-47 and are 71-82-3 against the ‘over/under’ line. The total has gone ‘over’ in 12 of their last 15 games against Washington.

Roy Halladay will try to strengthen his case for the 2010 NL Cy Young Award when he takes the mound tonight for Philadelphia. He is 20-10 with a 2.53 ERA in 32 starts this season. The last time out, he gave up seven hits and three earned runs in seven innings of work in key victory over Atlanta. It was his 20th win of the season. Lifetime against the Nationals Halladay is 7-1 with an ERA of 2.20.

A healthy starting lineup has helped Philadelphia raise its team batting average to .259, fifth best in the NL. The Phillies have scored 731 runs which is third best in the league. Ryan Howard leads the team with 106 RBI and 31 HR’s.

Washington is 5-1 in its last six games and 67-89 overall. The Nationals have already won eight more games than last season, but 2010 will still go down as a disappointing year. They are 45-67 as an underdog and 70-80-6 against the ‘over/under’ line.

Left hander John Lannan will get the start tonight for Washington. He is 8-7 with a 4.58 ERA in 24 previous starts. In his last outing he gave up six hits and three earned runs in seven innings of work but did not get the decision. Lannan is 0-7 with a 6.06 ERA in his career against Philadelphia.

The Nationals have a team batting average of .255; ranking them ninth in the NL. Their 647 total runs scored rank them 12th. Despite their overall troubles at the plate, Adam Dunn has had a monster year with 142 hits, 101 RBI, and 37 HR’s. Ryan Zimmerman leads the team in hits with 161.

Philadelphia has won 16 of its last 23 games against the Nationals in Washington. With Roy Halladay on the mound there is little reason not to believe that this will be win No. 17 and his 21st of the season. The Phillies will be using this final week of the regular season as a tune-up for another deep run in the postseason and it all starts with a convincing win tonight.
