The Philadelphia Phillies begin a three game series with the Florida Marlins tonight with Game 1 from Sun Life Stadium in Miami starting at 7:10 p.m. (ET).

Philadelphia won three out of four games against Florida last week and took two out of three from the N.Y. Mets this past weekend to regain the lead over Atlanta in the NL East by a game. The Phillies are now 83-61 overall and 36-33 straight up on the road. As a favorite, they are 60-45 and 66-76-2 against the ‘over/under’ line. The total has stayed ‘under’ in 10 of their last 13 games on the road.

Joe Blanton will get the start for Philadelphia tonight. The right hander is 6-6 on the year with an ERA of 5.15 in 24 starts. His last outing was against Florida on Sept. 7th where he gave up six hits and two earned runs in 6.1 innings of work, but did not get the decision. Lifetime against the Marlins, Blanton is 4-2 with a 3.35 ERA.

The Phillies offense still remains spotty, but they have been able to score runs when they need to the most. Their team batting average is currently .257, ranking them eighth in the NL. Their 670 runs scored rank the Phils fourth in the league. Ryan Howard leads the team with 99 RBI and 29 HR’s.

Florida is coming off a three sweep of Washington. It still finds itself nine games out of the lead in the East with an overall record of 73-69. The Marlins are 35-33 SU at home and 36-40 as an underdog. Against the ‘over/under’ line they are 74-61-6.

Florida will go with left hander Andrew Miller as its starter in this game. He has three previous starts this season and is 1-1 with a 6.16 ERA. Last time out, he faced the Phillies and got lit up for 11 hits and seven earned runs in just four innings of work. Miller is 0-4 lifetime against Philadelphia with an ERA of 6.42.

The Marlins are currently tied with Philadelphia in team batting average at .257. They are ranked sixth in the NL in total runs scored with 654; an average of 4.61 runs per game. Their lineup is powered by Dan Uggla, who leads the team with 90 RBI and 29 HR’s.

Philadelphia has won five of its last six games against the Marlins in Florida. Overall, the Phillies have won seven of the last 10 games in this series. Blanton’s pitching has been much more consistent over the second half of the season and has had success over the Marlins in the past. With the Braves breathing down their neck in the division race, the Phillies find a way to get a win in this one.
