Howard, who was benched for three games earlier last week, finally got back on track and led the Phillies (46-59) to 4-2 victory over Arizona on Sunday with a two-run homer in the first and the tiebreaking run in the sixth on a dropped ball at the plate.

It was Howard’s second home run in 30 games. Now he will hope to use it as a springboard to getting his season back on track, starting tonight against the Mets, a team he has recorded 40 homers and 114 RBIs in 136 games against.

Meanwhile, the Mets (50-55) went 5-5 on a 10-game road trip, winning four of their final six games and allowing a total of five runs in four victories.

Nevertheless, New York still remains five games under .500, behind the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers

They will look to keep their winning ways alive in game one against the Phillies, who they have won six of the nine meetings with this season, going 4-1 in a five-game series at Philadelphia back in May.

New York will send right-hander Bartolo Colon to the hill on Monday. The subject of trade rumors, the 41-year-old veteran won for the first time in a month at Seattle on Wednesday, allowing just two runs on three hits over 7 1/3 innings.

Colon, will look to make it two in a row against the Phillies, who he beat on June 2. He is 4-4 with a 2.81 ERA in eight home starts.

The Phils will counter with A.J. Burnett, who is has gone 4-8 in his last 15appearances since winning back-to-back starts early on in the season. However, it hasn’t been because the right-hander hasn’t been sharp, allowing three runs or fewer 10 times. He just hasn’t gotten the run support, like his last turn in San Francisco.

The veteran hurler did not factor in the decision against the Giants, despite shutting them out on four hits over eight innings. He got the same, after striking out a season-high 11 in a seven-inning no-decision versus the Mets on May 30.

Matt’s Free Prediction: Mets

I really like the Phillies with Burnett on the mound, unfortunately, I just don’t see the run support for him to notch the win.
