New York

It hasn’t taken Masahiro Tanaka long to get used to MLB action as once again he dominated except for a couple of homers allowed. New York keeps tinkering with their lineup but they might be getting the right mix with Jacoby

Ellsbury at the top. It is weird to see Ichiro hitting so low in the order but now that he has found his stroke that .371 average plays well anywhere.

The last time Pineda started against the Sox it started a social media firestorm but don’t forget that he has been very good this season. In two starts not against Boston this season he has given up just 1ER in 12 innings showing a lot of the form that made him such a desirable trade acquisition after his rookie season with Seattle.

You can bet they will be watching him closely in this one but whether he is “cheating” or not he can still dominate.

Boston

Not only did Boston lose the opener but their ace, Jon Lester, got roughed up, not exactly the way you make up ground at home.

Now they are looking to rebound against Pineda who really controlled them regardless of what was or wasn’t on his wrist last time.

The Red Sox have lost 4 of 5 to the Yanks and are sitting in last place. Overall they just are hitting, ranking just 23rd in runs scored this season. It is likely to come around but if it doesn’t happen soon they are going to dig themselves quite a hole.

It is early but it looks like John Lackey may be reverting to his early Boston form and that is not good for the Sox. He is still showing home/road splits that make them a smarter play at Fenway but an ERA over 4 is hardly great.

The big difference is that at home he keeps the ball in the yard. Lackey was shelled against the Yankees in their previous series giving up 4 dingers in the 7-4 loss.

Even before the series opener I thought New York was the play but after the win I think even more so. As a road favourite there is still good value and they are catching the Sox at just the right time. The only thing I don’t know is whether to play NY to win, the over or both.

Sounds like a parlay opportunity.
