The Yankees and the Twins kick off a three game set on Friday evening in New York. The two teams come in with an identical record of 22-12. The Twins sit atop the American League Central, while the Yankees are two games back of the red hot Tampa Bay Rays. The Yankees have been almost unbeatable at home, but the Twins have been good on the road this year as well.
Joe Mauer is back and healthy so Yankee Stadium will be full of all kinds of star athletes during this series. Expect an entertaining series and one that is played at a high level.
The Twins have had quite a few injuries to deal with this year, but they are playing solid baseball right now. Minnesota has won 7 of their last 10 games and they are doing it by playing well offensively as well as in the field. So far this season this team has been exactly the type of team you would expect from a Ron Gardenhire managed squad.
The Twins manufacture runs, have fewer errors than any other team in baseball, and seem to get all the little things done well. Jon Rauch has been a pleasant surprise filling in for the injured Joe Nathan in the closer role. Rauch has an ERA of just 1.93 and has saved nine games already this year.
The Yankees are 10-2 at home and for the most part they have looked like the same team that brought home the pennant last year. The Yankees are actually second in all of baseball with just 12 errors and their pitching staff has an impressive ERA of just 3.55. The feared lineup of the Yankees is performing very well already this year, scoring 5.43 runs per game. 
Mark Teixeira is showing signs of heating up, and that is bad news for entire American League. Guys like Brett Gardner and Nick Swisher, who might not be expected to star, have been terrific this season.
Gardner has become a threat to steal every time he reaches base. He has 16 stolen bases on the year, while being caught just once.
A.J. Burnett will take the hill for the Yankees, and he has been great so far this season other than his last start in Boston. Burnett will be looking to bounce back in a big way in this match up. Scott Baker will be on the mound for the Twins, and Baker is off to a successful start to the year as well. Baker has done a nice job of minimizing the damage when he hasn’t had his best stuff, which has allowed his team to fair well in his starts.
Yankees ML -175 – The Yankees have absolutely owned the Twins in New York for the last several years. New York is 27-5 in their last 32 meetings at home against Minnesota. That is the kind of trend that is extremely tough to go against. The Yankees are also 48-11 in their last 59 home games overall. The Yankees are super talented and they have the better pitcher going in this one as well.
