Los Angeles

The Dodgers responded well after their first game debacle. It is one thing to lose the opener but when you Clayton Kershaw on the mound with a lead you assume it is in the bag. It wasn’t and the fact that Kershaw is mortal in the postseason has to be a chilling thought.

Either way they took G2 thanks to a very good performance from secondary ace Zach Greinke. Other than a blowup from the normally reliable J.P. Howell it was exactly what they needed.

For this critical G3 the Dodgers are turning to Hyun-Jin Ryu. The lefty is supposed to be healthy but he could be a little rusty as he hasn’t pitched in a game in three weeks.

Last year he was solid over a couple of starts in the playoffs and he has been much better on the road this season – a surprise given that Dodger Stadium is a pitcher’s park.

In one start against the Cards he lost but wasn’t terrible – 7IP, 3ER. You can expect a fair performance.

St. Louis

The Cards got a split in L.A. Yes after a G1 win they could have really taken advantage but they have put the pressure on the Dodgers which is what matters the most. The Cardinals showed their strengths in terms of grinding out at bats in G1 but were overwhelmed by Greinke in G2.

I think we will probably see a bit of both in this one as they look to take command of the series yet again. This is a team that shouldn’t be overlooked.

St. Lous will have John Lackey on the hill tonight. Over the past few seasons Lackey has become a couple of different pitchers. On the road he is terrible but at home he can be lethal – since joining St. Louis was 2-0 with a 2.38 ERA. He also has another gear he finds in the postseason.

He won three games for Boston on the way to their winning the World Series last season.

MLB Prediction:  4* Play On St. Louis +106

MLB Score prediction:  St. Louis 5 – Los Angeles 3

Nice value with the Cardinals here. It opened with them as slight favourites but I guess that action moved the number. Not sure why, they are the only play on this one for me.
