San Diego Padres vs San Francisco Giants Preview

1. The Padres have lost 7 of their last 10 games.
2. The Giants have lost 9 of their last 10 home games.
3. The Giants are 25-10 in their last 25 home games against the Padres.

This season the Giants are 17-18 at home and the Padres are 18-19 on the road.

In their last games the Giants lost to the L.A. Dodgers 10-2 and the Padres lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 7-2.

The Giants took 2 of 3 games from the Dodgers in their last series and now they only trail by 1 game in the NL West. They are a big home betting favorite tonight with Madison Bumgarner on the hill facing a struggling Padres’ team that is coming off a loss and has only won 3 of their last 10 games.

San Diego sits in 4th place in the NL West 5.5 games back of the Dodgers.

While the Giants are averaging 5.11 runs per game on the road they have the worst mark in the Majors only averaging 3 at home. They face Odrisamar Despaigne tonight, who won both match ups with San Francisco as a rookie last season and held the Giants to .101 batting as a team.

The Padres have lost 3 straight games when Despaigne has gotten the start and he was roughed up in his last outing giving up 6 earned runs in 6 innings in a 16-2 blowout loss the Oakland A’s. San Diego has only won 2 of their last 9 road games when Despaigne has been on the hill.

Madison Bumgarner has lost his last 2 starts, but while he has an ERA of only 1.69 in those outings. He is 1.91 ERA in his last 5 home starts and one of those was a 2-0 shutout win over San Diego.

In 10 starts at home against the Padres Bumgarner has allowed 2 or fewer earned runs 8 times. While the Giants are 19-8 in Bumgarner’s last 27 starts they are only 1-4 in this last 5 home starts as a favorite.

San Diego’s offense has been solid this season ranking 11th in runs scored, but their pitching only ranks 24th in team ERA.

4* Cappers MLB Free Pick

Despaigne shut down the Giants twice last season and the San Francisco offense has struggled at home, but I am still going with the world champs with Bumgarner getting the start.
