Los Angeles (56-47) slid into first place in the NL West, but were unable to maintain possession and have fallen back to second after losing to the Pirates 6-1 on Wednesday.

The Dodgers also moved to 31-23 on the road with that loss and are 5-5 in their last 10 games, losing their last two.

That’s partially because the Dodgers’ bats have been all but totally silence over their last seven games, scoring just over two runs per game. As a team the LA is hitting just .257 with Yasiel Puig hitting .308, Dee Gordon hitting .294, and Hanley Ramirez hitting .273.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers starting pitching staff has done its job and has a collective ERA of 3.22.

Zack Greinke will get the call for LA in the opener, as the Dodgers look to improve their 3-7 mark against the Giants.

Greinke who has lost his last two starts, has allowed 123 hits and 40 earned runs while striking out 130 over 124.1 innings for an 11-6 record and a 2.90 ERA.

The Giants (57-45) will try to maintain their 1 1/2 game lead by countering with right-hander Tim Lincecum who lost his last start but who is having a solid comeback season.

Lincecum has allowed 102 hits and 49 earned runs so far this season, while striking out 108 over 120.2 innings for a 9-6 record and a 3.65 ERA. He entered Tuesday’s game in the 14th inning to collect his first career save against the Phillies.

The Giants are 28-25 at home, 7-3 in their last 10 games, and they are coming off of a loss on Thursday.
As a team San Francisco is hitting .246 with Hunter Pence leading the way.

San Francisco is 4-1 in Lincecum’s last five starts, while Los Angeles is 4-12 in the last 16 meetings of these two.
