The Angels had a rough start but have been playing better lately. If they are going to continue to do so they are going to have to do it without slugger Josh Hamilton who is out of the lineup until May with a thumb injury.

It is a shame because was looking really good this season and helped stake the Angels to the second best offense in the Majors thus far. Its no surprise at this point but so was Mike Trout who is tied for the AL lead with 5 homers. Just imagine if they still have Mark Trumbo and his 6 MLB leading bombs. I am still not sure why they dealt him.

Jered Weaver might be done as an above average pitcher. All the talk in the spring was that he is not able to reach even 90MPH on the radar gun anymore and the results this year have not been good. He always gave up too many fly balls and this year it has resulted in 5 homers allowed in just three starts.
His BAA is alright but combine the homers with the walks and it is killing him. Lucky for him the Angels can score some runs or else he would be a common fade.

Detroit
The Tigers enter the weekend on a winning note after splitting a weather shortened series against the Indians.
They have not gotten off to the kind of start they were hoping to because the offense has been a little sluggish. Rumours are swirling that Miguel Cabrera may have an unjury because truthfully nobody believes he can .250 unless something is up. New 2B Ian Kinsler has found his comfort zone pretty quickly leading the team in runs, hits and RBIs in the early going.
Rajai Davis will lead the Majors in steals if they keep him in the lineup regularly.
When the Tigers traded Doug Fister in the offseason it was in part to open up a spot for the lefthanded Smyly, who shone in relief. Due to the scheduling so far this will be his first start of the season but he has looked sharp in two relief appearance, not giving up a run.
This will be his first start since his rookie season in 2012. If he meets expectations that Tigers rotation gets even nastier.
I changed my mind about Weaver and am definitely going to fade him here and against any teams with a pulse really. With the Angels being a public team and him being a recognizable name I think there is going to be pretty good value.
Smyly won’t be perfect but he will let the offense win it for him.
