The Philadelphia Phillies travel to Minute Maid Park in Houston to begin a three game series against the Astros starting tonight at 8:05 P.M.

The Phillies started the 2010 season by winning two out of three games against Washington. While their pitching so far has been decent, especially Roy Halladay’s debut on opening day it has been the Phillies’ bats that have carried them so far.

In the three game series they tallied 24 runs against the Nationals and will look to light up the Astros as well. Getting the start tonight for the Phils will be J.A. Happ. The lefty, who has recently moved back into the starting rotation on a full time basis, will be out to prove that his 13-5 record and 3.21 ERA in his rookie season was not a fluke.

He was a starter for most of the regular season last year, but his lack of experience moved him to the pen during the playoffs. Regardless of how he does tonight, Houston has to be more concerned facing the Phillies lineup, which has been solid from top to bottom so far. One of the biggest surprises has been the play of their new 3B Placido Polanco.

In 14 at bats he has seven hits, six RBI’s and one homerun making their already formidable lineup all that much better.

The Astros opened the season at home against San Francisco with the hope of jumping out to a quick start against a quality team.

Scoring a total a six runs in three straight losses to the Giants was certainly not the result they were looking for. Tonight they will send Bud Norris to the mound for his first start of the season in hopes of giving them their first win. Last season was also Norris’s first in the majors as he came up mid-season and turned in a decent effort going 6-3 with an ERA of 4.53.

The most encouraging aspect of his performance was the fact he went 3-0 with an ERA of 1.57 in his final four starts. He will surely be tested tonight against the Philly bats.

Offensively the Astros have gotten off to a horrible start and in the absence of their best player; Lance Berkman who is still on the DL will need much better production from Carlos Lee, Geoff Blum, and Hunter Pence if they are going to have any chance to win this game.

This could turn into a battle between two good young pitchers, but I do not see Norris being able to slow down the Phillies bats enough to win this one.

If Houston cannot find a way to generate some runs, this one could be over early.
