Baseball Gambling: Cappers Picks Baseball Power Rankings Week 23

Baseball Handicapping Tips

The MLB gambling regular season is set to enter its final full months, and the front offices for each team have tinkered and toyed with their rosters, doing what they can to further separate the haves and the have-nots. With that said, it’s these opinions we formulate that help us to build the foundation of a profitable final quarter.

Here are the power rankings entering the 23rd week of the MLB schedule.

MLB Stats

1. Los Angeles Angels (83-53)

The loss of Garrett Richards hurts the Angels in a big way. He’s the guy that likely would have opened the postseason for them. His absence makes the team’s rotation look a lot thinner, but that hasn’t been what’s powered this team. They’re continuing to rake, and have showed no signs of slowing down in that department.

2. Baltimore Orioles (79-56)

Chris Tillman has quietly been pitching like an ace over the last month of the season, and that’s exactly what the team’s needed him to do. Slugger Chris Davis is having such a tough time at the plate at the moment, and it doesn’t feel like the team is doing all that much at the moment to help him out of it, probably because they’re still scoring runs with relative ease.

3. Oakland Athletics (78-58)

This team has really lost its mojo, and that’s part of the downside of making as many trades as general manager Billy Beane has in recent weeks. The team still has a very talented roster, and should be fine wants once the playoffs roll around, but manager Bob Melvin has to be a little concerned that this is more than a rough patch.

4. Washington Nationals (77-58)

The Nationals have really flown under the radar this season, enduring a slew of injuries month after month, yet continuing to churn out victories at an impressive pace. Third baseman Ryan Zimmerman remains on the shelf, but the majority of the team’s roster is healthy, for the most part. They’ll be a very tough out in a seven-game serious given the depth they have in the starting rotation. Their bats will face a stiff test this week with Felix Hernandez and Clayton Kershaw on tap.

5. Los Angeles Dodgers (77-60)

The Dodgers are effectively in cruise control right now, even letting Juan Uribe spending some extra time on the shelf to recover from injury. The team’s bats haven’t produced runs at nearly the rate they should be, yet wins haven’t been especially hard to come by with a team that has so much talent on the mound. A healthy Hyun-Jin Ryu will help solidify the rotation.

6. Kansas City Royals (74-61)

It’s been so long since the Royals have been relevant that just about every baseball fan has become a fan of the team and is enjoying their recent run, much in the way that they did with the Pittsburgh Pirates a year ago. The Royals still have some work to do if they hope to hold off the Tigers, but with the way they’re playing right now, that’s very doable.

7. Detroit Tigers (74-62)

The Tigers won the trade deadline and looked like world-beaters when they added David Price to an already dominant starting rotation. The team hasn’t enjoyed as much success as many thought they would since then, but there is far too much talent on this roster for the team not to be feared come October.

8. Seattle Mariners (73-62)
[dfads params=’groups=10&limit=1&orderby=random&return_javascript=1′]
The Mariners have some work ahead of them if they hope to hold off the loser of the AL Central race for the final Wild Card spot. The way the team is playing right now they’ll probably be able to do it, winning 16 of their last 24 games.

9, Milwaukee Brewers (73-63)

The team’s middle infield has been interesting this season. Scotter Gennett has enjoyed a breakout season. Rickie Weeks has returned to relevance. But, unfortunately, Jean Segura has had a tough sophomore season while dealing with some off field issues. Matt Garza returns to the starting rotation soon.

10. St. Louis Cardinals (73-63)

The return of Yadier Molina behind the plate is such a great boost for a team that needed one with the words “dead arm” getting thrown around. John Lackey has been a solid contributor in the starting rotation since coming over from Boston.

11. San Francisco Giants (74-62)
12. Atlanta Braves (72-65)
13. New York Yankees (70-65)
15. Pittsburgh Pirates (71-65)
16. Tampa Bay Rays (66-71)
17. Cincinnati Reds (66-71)
18. Cleveland Indians (70-64)
19. Toronto Blue Jays (69-67)
20. Miami Marlins (66-69)
21. New York Mets (64-73)
22. San Diego Padres (64-71)
23. Philadelphia Phillies (62-74)
24. Minnesota Twins (59-77)
25. Boston Red Sox (60-76)
26. Chicago White Sox (62-75)
27. Houston Astros (59-79)
28. Arizona Diamondbacks (57-79)
29. Texas Rangers (53-83)
30. Chicago Cubs (61-76)
