Friday’s “Need To Know”

A look at the hot and cold pitchers going on Friday. The information you need to know whether it is for fantasy baseball or wagering contests. Friday features many hot pitchers with a total of 8 pitchers with an ERA under 3.00 in their last 5 starts with at least 27.2 IP. We’ve got 6 other starters who have an ERA under 4.00 in their last 5 starts with at least 30 IP.However, we are going to feature the two pitchers with the best shot at a win on Friday and tell you all the notables. Enjoy!

Probable Hot Starting Pitchers going on Friday:

Joe Blanton (Phillies)

Joe Blanton continues to dominate. He had every single start in July in Philly where he went 29.2 innings and gave up 4 ER for a 1.23 ERA in 4 starts. He backed that up in August when he made his first road start in 5 games at the Giants with 7 innings and 2 ER. If you check out our live sports odds I think you will see that the Phillies who opened at -150 will continue to rise because the Marlins just have collapsed getting swept by the Nationals in 3 games blowing a 6-0 lead in game 1 and a 7-0 lead in game 3.

Marlins do have good numbers against Blanton but I would not chase the fish again here as they have not pitched well at all. Marlins have a .293 average including new arrival Nick Johnson who is 5-10 against Blanton in his career. The Phillies are 16-5 in Blanton’s last 21 starts as a favorite.

I agree with Vegas here and I think Blanton gives you the best chance to win with the best value on Friday for hot starters.

Tim Lincecum (Giants)

The Reds have bad news on Friday as they face the best pitcher in the game and they have never faced him before. Lincecum needs no introduction to my hot pitchers list as he’s been on here plenty of times before. He has a 2.18 ERA on the season with a 12-3 record. The line is extremely pricey at -300 already. So just how do you make money without paying for it?

Take Lincecum on the run line especially when you know he is going to win as the Giants are only 14-8 with him on the mound not exactly the numbers you expect from a dominant starter, but that is not his fault. However, in the Giants 14 wins he has won 13 of the 14 by more than 1 run. So take the run line with LIncecum on the mound. I give the run line here my second best bet on these hot pitchers going today check out all notables below.

Notables – Last 5 Starts!

John Garland (2-2, 1.03 WHIP, 2.75 ERA)
Carlos Zambrano (3-0, 1.48 WHIP, 2.93 ERA)
Jarr Jurrjens (3-1, 1.17 WHIP, 2.64 ERA)
Josh Beckett (4-1, 0.93 WHIP, 2.15 ERA)
Brian Bannister (1-1, 1.27 WHIP, 2.78 ERA)
Joe Niemann (3-1, 1.07 WHIP, 2.86 ERA)

Probable Cold Pitchers on Friday:

Homer Bailey (Reds)

Yikes not a good match up for a pitcher who is 1-3 with a 7.76 ERA over his last 5 starts. Bailey has the liberty of going up against Tim Lincecum and Vegas is reacting with the same disbelief placing the Reds at +270 under dogs on the road. I expect this line to travel higher as you’d be surprised how bad people are with their money and will lay the -300. What that means is you’d have to win 3 games to every 4 to break even. Good luck with that.

Most people do not get that -300 sounds great and all, but it’s never a guarantee win. Bailey has a 7.24 ERA on the road this year and has not started against the Giants since 2007.

Notables – Last 3 Starts!

Chad Billingsley (2-2, 1.67 WHIP, 7.33 ERA)
Vin Mazzaro (0-4, 2.44 WHIP, 9.64ERA)
Joe Saunders (1-1, 2.02 WHIP, 7.48 ERA)
