Matchup Insight | ATS MLB Preview

Probable Pitchers:

BAL:  Miguel Gonzalez (R)
KC:  Jason Vargas (L)

Baltimore

The Orioles had a very good season but it looks pretty close to being over.

All of the games in this series have been close so they have not been playing poorly but nevertheless they are down 3-0. They have to turn around and clear their heads from last night’s loss in less than 24 hours.

Everything appears set for a sweep but we will see just how much might the O’s have left in them. Even though they had a strong year they don’t have the rep of being a feisty team.

No one Orioles starter stands out so I suppose it makes sense to go with the well rested Miguel Gonzalez is this potential elimination game.

Gonzalez hasn’t pitched in the playoffs and finished strong down the stretch with three shutout outings in his last 5 starts. He had one start against the Royals this season and was just adequate, nothing special.

Two years ago he was very sharp in his one playoff start which makes you wonder what they were waiting for.

Kansas City

The Royals fantastic run continues.

They have won 7 straight playoff games which I believe has only been done twice before, most recently by the 2007 Rockies – another team people probably thought would flame out in the playoffs.

They are sitting on the edge of getting back to the World Series for the first time since 1985 after their 2-1 G3 victory. Hopefully they are not going to lose their nerve now that they are so close. This is a young team.

Lefty Jason Vargas is another rested starter – he hasn’t pitched since October 2. The crafty lefty can be effective but is seldom dominant and probably is only getting the start because of the advantageous position the Royals are in.

[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

He was not very good in September. He did not face the O’s this season and will have to be careful with Nelson Cruz who has burned him for 4 homers and a .333 average over his career.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Under is 8-2-1 in BAL last 11 Wed. games.
  • Over is 7-2 in BAL last 9 on grass.
  • Under is 26-9 in BAL last 35 road games.
  • Under is 8-2 in KC last 10 Wed. games.
  • Over is 13-5 in KC last 18 games following a win.
  • KC are 20-8 in their last 28 Wed. games.
  • BAL are 2-6 in the last 8 meetings in Kansas City.

MLB ALCS Prediction:  Baltimore -104

I know they are scorching right now but it is hard to predict a K.C. sweep.

4* MLB Score prediction:  Baltimore 4 – Kansas City 2

Even value so there can be a good payoff with Baltimore as they live to fight another day.
