The Giants and Reds continue a 4 game set on Friday as Cincinnati looks to make it two in a row against the Giants.

Marlon Byrd played a giant role in the series opening win for the Reds as he delivered a game tying single and ultimately hit the go ahead home run in a 4-3 Cinci win. Now, San Francisco will send ace Madison Bumgarner to the mound as the Giants look to find an answer to their inconsistency and get back to the .500 mark.

San Francisco Giants

Unable to string together wins in a row, the inconsistency is becoming frustrating for the defending champs. The Giants have flirted with the .500 mark all season long and now find themselves under that mark and 5.5 games out of first place. Madison Bumgarner tries to put the brakes on a 2 game losing streak on Friday.

Bumgarner has followed the inconsistent trend as he won 2 straight starts, but struggled in his last one against Miami. He went just 5.0 innings allowing 5 hits, and 3 runs in a 6-2 loss.

Previous to his struggle against Miami, Bumgarner turned in 2 solid outings against the Dodgers and Padres.

He went a combined 15.1 innings allowing just 7 hits and 1 earned run.

He is 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 6 career starts against the Reds.

The Giants offense has labored during this short 2 game losing streak as they’ve been able to only manufacture 3 runs in each loss.

Cincinnati Reds

The Reds have strung together 3 straight wins to climb above the .500 mark and will now look to make it 4 in a row with a win over the World Series MVP. In hopes of making it 4 straight, the Reds send right hander Jason Marquis to the mound.

Marquis had a 3 game winning streak snapped himself after getting knocked around by the White Sox last start. Marquis went 5.2 innings allowing 10 hits, and 5 runs, including 3 home runs allowed.

Prior to that start, he beat Milwaukee twice and Atlanta.

Once of those starts came inside Great American Ballpark where he went 8.0 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 runs in a 9-6 victory over the Brewers.

Marquis is 7-5 against the Giants in 16 starts. He’s struggled to receive run support as his ERA against them is just 2.84.
