Oakland and Minnesota continue their series on Tuesday following a slugfest in Monday’s opener. After Oakland raced out to an early lead, Minnesota stormed back, thanks in large part to a big 6th inning as the Twins captured win number 5 in a row.

They’ll now look for 6 when they send Trevor May to the mound. Countering May, will be right hander Jesse Chavez, who is probably relieved he isn’t facing the Angels for another time this season.

Oakland Athletics

Oakland has dealt with many inconsistencies already in their 2015 campaign. If their pitching is on, their hitting is struggling. If their hitting is on, their pitching is struggling. That was the case on Monday as the Athletics scored 7 runs in a losing 8-7 effort as their pitchers could not hold the lead. Tuesday’s starting pitcher, Jesse Chavez, would love another 7 run outburst from his offense as he’s received very little run support in his starts.

Over his past 11 innings pitched, Chavez has gotten 0 runs from his offense. The lack of offensive help has led Chavez to an early 0-2 record in 2015.

Chavez started the season pitching out of the bullpen, but was then summoned on April 23rd to make a start against the Angels. He also faced the Angels in his next start, 7 days later.

Combined, Chavez has gone 11 total innings allowing 5 earned runs total.

Chavez has made just 1 start in his career against Minnesota, but has 8 total appearances. The right hander has struggled a bit allowing 8 runs over a 15.1 inning span.

Look for the Oakland bullpen to start getting some grief as they’ve struggled as of late. The bullpen has let up multiple runs in 12 of the team’s last 18 games they’ve appeared in. R.J. Alveraz was the culprit yesterday allowing 2 runs in his inning pitched.

Minnesota

The Twins struggled to score early in the season, but that has since changed as the team is one of the hottest in baseball. They’ll look to grab their 6th straight win on Tuesday and jump to 3 games over the .500 mark. Their surge has put them in 3rd place in the AL Central, just 3 games behind front running Detroit.

Hoping to keep the streak alive, the Twins will look to Trevor May. May has battled a bruised elbow throughout this early part of the season, but showed no signs of that last time out.

[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

May went 5.2 innings allowing just 2 runs in a blowout win over Chicago. May did allow 10 hits in the start, but was given such an insurmountable lead, he did a good job of not walking too many batters as walked just 1.

May has faced the A’s one time in his career, which was his major league debut. May lost that outing allowing four runs and walked 7 in a very laboring effort.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Athletics are 11-27 in their last 38 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game.
  • Athletics are 2-5 in their last 7 Tuesday games.
  • Twins are 6-2 in their last 8 games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
  • Twins are 5-2 in their last 7 home games vs. a right-handed starter.

Free 4* MLB Pick: Oakland -106

Trevor May hasn’t been very reliable in his starts as he’s shown many signs of struggling.

Oakland 5, Minnesota 2

With his elbow bruise still lingering, back the A’s here.
