The Oakland Athletics leave all the drama behind in Kansas City as they get set to continue their road trip in Los Angeles to do battle with Mike Trout and company. Oakland saw the benches clear multiple times in Kansas City while the Angels were struggling to get past now first place Houston.

Both teams look to bounce back following a close loss on Sunday.

Oakland Athletics

The A’s had a weekend filled with ejections, injuries, and hit batters. After Brett Lawrie slid into 2nd and injured Alcides Escobar, the Royals proceeded to throw at him on 2 separate occasions. The most recent came yesterday when Kelvin Herrera threw at his back twice, and then proceeded to yell at him and say he’d throw at his head next time with a 100 mph fastball. The Royals came back and beat the A’s in the game.

With all that being left in Kansas City, Oakland will look to rebound when they send Kendall Graveman to the mound.

Graveman looks to build off his solid start in Houston that saw him throw 5.1 scoreless innings, after he struggled in his first start. Graveman was tagged for 8 runs over just 3.1 innings against the Rangers in a 10-1 loss.

This will be just his 3rd career start.

Ben Zobrist remains a game time decision for Monday as he continues to battle left knee soreness that took him out of Sunday’s game before all the drama unfolded. Zobrist has 8 RBI on the season.

Los Angeles Angels

The Angels come in off 2 straight losses to the Houston Astros. After scoring 6 runs in the series opener, the Angels manufactured just 3 runs over the next two games, with all 3 of those coming yesterday.

To try and play stopper, the Angels send Matt Shoemaker to the mound, who has won both his starts this season.

Shoemaker is 2-0 with a 4.38 ERA on the season thus far. Shoemaker has gone 6.0 and 6.1 innings respectively in his starts, allowing 6 hits and 3 runs in both outings.

The Angels have had major success with the right hander on the mound. They’ve notched 10 straight victories when he takes the hill, and over those 10 games, Shoemaker is 9-0 with a 1.92 ERA.

The Angels have had success when Mike Trout is on base, On the season, Trout is hitting .364, but went 0 for 8 in the final 2 games against Houston, both obviously being losses.
