The Brewers and Braves meet in a National League contest as both teams have some work to do in the standings. The last place Brewers come in with much more of a work load as they trail by 12.5 games in the NL Central.

However, they did just take 2 of 3 from the high power Detroit Tigers as they look for some sort of spark. The Braves split a short 2 game set with Tampa Bay and currently sit 4 games out of first in the NL East.

Milwaukee Brewers

The Brewers have been searching for something to ignite and spark their team. After taking the first 2 games in Detroit, a sweep would have been just what the doctor ordered. Unfortunately, a late 3 run triple did the Brewers in as they dropped the finale 5-2. Now, they’ll look for their 2nd straight series win as they send Matt Garza to the mound, who is looking to get his form back.

Last time out Garza was tattooed by the New York Mets as he went just 3.1 innings, allowing 10 hits and 10 earned runs. His ERA jumped from 4.04 to 5.72 in the start. Mets hitters were 4 for 8 with runners in scoring position.

Garza’s last win came back on 4/29 against the Reds as he went 6.2 innings allowing 5 hits and 2 runs in an 8-3 win.

His woes have come majorly on the road as he has an ERA of 7.48, but that is thanks in large part to the outings against the Mets (10 runs) and Pirates (5 runs).

The Brewers will try to get over the .500 mark with Craig Counsell as manager. They come into this contest 8-8 with him at the helm.

Atlanta Braves

Like many teams, getting held to 3 runs or fewer is typically a doomed stat. The Braves have lost 12 of 13 when getting held to that stat, but their lone win came yesterday as they grabbed a 2-1 victory over Tampa to split their 2 game set and get back to within 1 game of the .500 mark. They’ll now look to get to the break even mark as they send Julio Teheran to the hill.

Teheran brings in a 3-1 record, but a high ERA of 4.33. He’s received no decisions in his last two starts.

On 5/19, he was knocked around by Washington going 5 and fly allowing 10 hits and 6 runs. On 5/15 against the Marlins he went 5.2 inning allowed 9 hits but just 2 runs (1 earned). He danced in and out of trouble all night long.

Freddie Freeman has been the Braves most reliable hitter as he’s hit for a .303 average, but against Milwaukee he’s struggled. In 25 meetings, he’s hit just .185.

The Braves won 5 of 6 against the Brewers in 2014.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Brewers are 5-2 in their last 7 when their opponent allows 2 runs or less in their previous game.
  • Brewers are 14-29 in their last 43 games as an underdog.
  • Braves are 4-9 in their last 13 vs. National League Central.
  • Braves are 6-14 in their last 20 games as a favorite.

Free 4* MLB Pick: Milwaukee +118
