The Angels and Rays meet in the rubber match of a 3 game set as Tampa Bay looks to lock in their 4th straight series win.

Tampa Bay has won 8 out of their last 11 and continue to keep pace in the AL East as they sit just 1.5 games behind New York. As for Los Angeles, their struggles have put them 4 games off the pace in the AL West. Thanks in large part to Houston struggling lately, they have been able to stay well within striking distance.

Los Angeles Angels vs Tampa Bay Rays

The Angels have been in the worst stretch of baseball they’ve played all season. Losers of 6 of their last 7, they’ll try to right the ship and grab a series win in Tampa on Thursday. However, with the AL West teams struggling, especially the Astros, they have been able to weather the storm and sit just 4 games out of first place.

They’ll look to Garrett Richards to have a bounce back performance and take this series.

Richards didn’t even make it out of the 1st inning last game as he went just .2 innings allowing 6 runs against the Yankees. Richards said his health is fine, he just didn’t have it that day.

He did turn in one of his best performances this season against Tampa Bay on 6/1 as he went 6.0 innings allowing just 3 runs on 6 hits.

Richards’ key to victory is to keep the ball down as he’s allowed a home run in 4 straight starts now.

As for the offense, they’re averaging less than 4 runs per road contest. That low scoring has led them to 4 games under the .500 mark away from home.

Tampa Bay is heading in the other direction in terms of wins as they look for their 4th straight series win. The offense received an immediate boost on Wednesday as Evan Longoria returned to the lineup and blasted a solo home run.

To try and take the series at home, they’ll send out Alex Colome.

The right hander has seen the Rays lose in his last 3 starts and he did not pitch well in his start against the Angels and Richards on 6/1. He was the loser as he went 6.0 innings allowing 9 hits and 5 runs.

He’s been a good pitcher at home as he’s allowed no more than 2 runs in 3 of his 4 home starts.

With a win on Thursday, Tampa Bay can get back to the .500 mark at home.
