Division rivals from the AL Central square off as the Cleveland Indians head to Detroit to do battle with the Tigers. Detroit has taken 5 of 6 this year from Cleveland, including a 3 game dominating sweep in Cleveland in Opening Week. The tables have turned a bit since then as Cleveland has drastically improved their play while Detroit has regressed a bit.

The teams are closer together in the standings which make this series even bigger.

Cleveland vs. Detroit

The Central division has became a little more crowded with all 5 teams sticking around. Cleveland was embarrassed against the Tigers during the Opening Week of the MLB season. Detroit not only spoiled the Home Opener inside Progressive Field, but they also went on to sweep Cleveland and pretty much send them into downward spiral in the month of April.

However, the Tribe has bounced back and after a 6-0 win in the finale against Seattle, they head into this series with a little momentum.

For Cleveland, right hander Danny Salazar will take the mound. Salazar brings in a stellar 6-1 record and led the Indians to a 2-1 victory over Baltimore on Saturday. Salazar went 7 innings allowing just 1 run and struck out 10.

He faced the Tigers already once in Detroit this season, grabbing the win and striking out 11 in a 13-1 Cleveland beatdown.

As for Detroit, David Price put the brakes on an 8 game losing streak Detroit was enduring as he dominated the White Sox in a 7-1 win. Price went a complete game striking out 11 White Sox members.

Price faced Cleveland once this year and received a no decision as he allowed 4 runs in 5.2 innings of work.

Detroit leads the season series 5-1 and took 2 of 3 from Cleveland in Detroit last time they were in town.

The Indians have played much better baseball away from home though. Cleveland is 16-13 away from Progressive Field this season.

They are averaging 4.10 runs a game and allowing just 3.34 against.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Indians are 8-2 in their last 10 road games with the total set at 7.0-8.5.
  • Indians are 4-1 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a losing home record.
  • Tigers are 3-9 in their last 12 games on grass.
  • Tigers are 1-4 in their last 5 games as a home favorite.

MLB Predictions:

Both teams have shown inconsistencies throughout the entire season. At plus money, Cleveland is the way to go here.
