A pair of dueling AL Central Division aces take the hill on Monday as Corey Kluber and the Indians travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox and Chris Sale. The Indians come into this 4 game set having won just their 2nd series of the season this past weekend. The White Sox have rattled off 5 straight victories, including a sweep of the Oakland Athletics.

Both the Tribe and Sox look to close the gap in the division as they sit in the bottom 2 spots.

Cleveland Indians

The Indians did something this past weekend they haven’t done since opening weekend. Win a series and win back-to-back games. Now they’ll look to build off that as they head to Chicago for a 2nd time already this season. Last time they were there, they endured a bit of heartbreak in the series opener as they watched Chicago score 4 times in the bottom of the 9th to steal the game.

The Indians will send Corey Kluber to the mound, who earned his first win in 2015 with a giant statement last time out.

The defending AL Cy Young winner sat with an 0-5 record heading into his start against St. Louis. He took the term “handling it yourself,” to a new level. Kluber struck out 18 of the 24 batters he faced to turn in one of the most epic pitching performances in the history of the game.

He has faced Chicago once this season and was knocked around for his worst outing of the campaign allowing 13 hits and 6 runs in a 6 inning effort.

Overall, he is 4-3 against Chicago in his career.

Cleveland 2B Jason Kipnis will look to reach base 3 or more times for the 9th straight game on Monday.

Chicago White Sox

The White Sox saw a little bit of everything in their series against Oakland. Dramatics, late inning rallys, and bad base running resulted in a Sox sweep as they look to run their win streak to 6 straight as they send the ace of their own, Chris Sale, to the mound.

Sale brings in a solid 3-1 record, but his ERA is inflated at 5.09. That is thanks in large part to two bad outings against the Twins and Tigers.

He pitched more like the ace he is last time out against the Brewers going 8.0 strong innings, allowing 3 hits and just 2 runs.

He has struggled against the Indians in his career going 3-4 with a 4.29 ERA in 21 overall appearances.

Currently, the White Sox now sit with a .500 record thanks to their winning streak, and sit just 5 games out of the AL Central lead.

They’re 3-2 against Cleveland this season.

MLB Handicapping Trends:

  • Indians are 10-22 in their last 32 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600.
  • Indians are 4-9 in their last 13 games vs. a left-handed starter.
  • White Sox are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. American League Central.
  • White Sox are 2-5 in their last 7 during game 1 of a series.

Free 4* MLB Pick: Cleveland +105

With the way Kluber pitched last time out, combined with Sale’s struggles against Cleveland, the Indians at plus money is the way to go here.

Cleveland 6, Chicago 1

The Indians win the opener of a series for the 2nd straight time with a win over the White Sox on Monday.
