The Cubs and Cardinals continue a 4 game set with game 3 of the series. St. Louis has showed off the lumber in the first two games pounding out 17 runs combined, resulting in 2 wins. The Cubs hope to turn the series around and put the brakes on their 4 game losing streak as they send Jon Lester to the mound.

The Cardinals will counter with Lance Lynn, who hopes to push the Cards win streak to 9.

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs pitching can be the main blame behind their current 4 game losing streak. Over the 4 games, Chicago has scored 17 runs combined, but their pitchers have allowed 28 runs to their counterparts. The pitching has extremely struggled in the first two games of this series as they’ve allowed St. Louis to score 17 runs themselves on 23 hits.

To try to put a stop to the opposition, Chicago sends Ace Jon Lester to the hill.

Lester finally got in the win column last time out with a brilliant 7 inning, 3 hit, 0 run performance against Milwaukee.

This will be the 2nd time Lester will face the Cardinals, as he was knocked around early on Opening Night as he went 4.1 innings allowing 8 hits and 3 runs. Lester wasn’t very efficient as he threw 89 pitches and got the loss.

Lester has started one game on the road this season and received a no decision against Cincinnati as he went 6.0 innings allowing 5 hits and 3 runs. The Cubs went on to win the contest 7-3.

Second baseman Addison Russell looks to stay hot as he is in the midst of an 8 game hitting streak. The rookie has gone 10 for 28 during the streak.

St. Louis Cardinals

The Cardinals are clicking on all cylinders early this season. Winners of 8 in a row, the Cards hold a 6.5 game lead in the NL Central standings over the Cubs. Their showing a lot of resilience too as they’ve came from behind in 5 straight contests.

Looking to continue the streak, Lance Lynn will toe the rubber for the Cards on Wednesday.

Lynn brings in a 1-2 record, but one of those losses came against this Cubs team back on Opening Week.

Lynn didn’t pitch bad as he went 6 innings, allowing just 2 hits, 2 runs (1 earned), but it was a rare occurrence for St. Louis as he received no run support as they lost 2-0.

In his career against Chicago, Lynn has started 11 games and appeared out of the bullpen in another as he’s gone 6-4 with a 3.03 ERA in those 12 games.

St. Louis is one of the most prolific offenses at home this season as they’ve averaged 5.00 runs a game inside Busch Stadium and have a 13-2 S.U.
