Both of these teams are struggling, but this upcoming series in south Florida will feature a cluster of elite sluggers and some of the game’s better young players on the same field.

There’s got to be some reason to tune in, right?

The Marlins (24-36) hope returning to the Florida heat will spark their play, as they were just swept in Toronto at the hands of the Blue Jays.

Colorado (27-31), on the other hand, looked lost against these same Marlins last week, but have since rebounded with a strong showing against the St. Louis Cardinals, one of the best teams in baseball.

Even if we see a series of juvenile execution – and with two teams a combined 16 games under .500 at this point of the season, that’s not an entirely unrealistic expectation – we should still see some dingers float into the South Beach night.

For the visitors, it’s 3B Nolan Arenado, SS Troy Tulowitzki, OF Carlos Gonzalez and high-average 2B D.J. LeMahieu. In Miami’s dugout, the discussion begins and ends with monster OF Giancarlo Stanton.

All of the hitters mentioned are capable of tearing the cover off the ball, which is not great news for tonight’s starters. Chris Rusin takes the hill for the Rockies, who carries strong stats through his only three appearances this year.

The home side counters with David Phelps, who has been very human. His ERA over four and a half goes along with opponents smacking .277 off him so far this season.

Ultimately, we could see several runs scored tonight. Yet for the Fish, it has to be more than just Stanton to fear in the lineup (he has an eye-popping 21 HRs already).

Slick-fielding SS Adeiny Hechavarria seems to be finally figuring it out at the plate (.303 average) and speedy 2B Dee Gordon is hot also, but neither are run-producers. All the components of Miami’s roster – and it’s not without talent – need to come together for the Marlins to be competitive in the NL East division.

The Marlins find themselves 7.5 games back of the division leading Nationals.

Colorado finds itself in a similar quandary, although if it can keep playing the way it did versus the Red Birds – taking two of three against St. Lou and grabbing two of three against the L.A. Dodgers a week earlier – the Rockies may just figure it out.

Pitching has always been Colorado’s Achilles heel, though with some young studs on the way, that looks to change.

4* MLB Free Pick: Colorado 8, Miami 6

Despite the constant threat of Stanton, I like the Rockies to pull a mini-upset in this game and keep their strong play of late intact.
