The Phillies make the triple out to Baltimore having lost six in a row and nine of 10, getting swept in back-to-back series at the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates.

They’ll send out Aaron Harang in the opener of this series in hopes of stopping the bleeding, though they’ve lost his last five starts.
Harang has been a terrific pick up for the Phillies, posting a 3.04 ERA and 1.10 WHIP since coming to Philadelphia.

A lack of run support has contributed to his 4-7 record.
A couple bad starts in a row have inflated his numbers as he allowed 13 runs (12 earned) over 11 2/3 innings of work in his last two starts.
The last start was particularly dreadful, as Harang surrendered seven runs in six innings of work, giving up four home runs.
Prior to those two outings, Harang’s carried a 2.02 ERA.
The Orioles counter with Wei-Yin Chen. Similar to Harang, Chen carries far better ratios than his win-loss record would indicate.
Chen has a 3.21 ERA and 1.18 WHIP this season, but is 2-4 on the year, picking up his second win of the year in his most recent start.
In that outing, Chen allowed two runs on seven hits in five innings of work in a 5-2 victory over the Boston Red Sox.

The Orioles are the better team in this matchup, and while it’s difficult to envision the Phillies keeping an opponent down for nine full innings, the line in this game makes the Orioles appear to be something they’re not, and the value is on the other side.
Additionally, both pitchers are in the midst of solid years, and while they’ve put up their sparkling ERAs, neither has received much run support.

The under is certainly worth a closer look in this one.
