The Yankees are looking to take advantage of a down Phillies team as interleague play resumes among these classic franchises.
Philadelphia
The Phillies are having a bad season. They are 1-9 in their last ten games and have just a .200 winning percentage on the road this year.
That includes zeros wins in their last ten outside Philly. I feel confident when I write that this club is going nowhere.
In fact things could get a lot worse if they can find suitors for the likes of Cole Hamels, Chase Utley or Ryan Howard. The future for the Phillies is not very bright either unless they go on a spending spree, which is what got them into trouble in the first place.
Kevin Correia is a typical journeyman pitcher.
There was a time when he might have had promise but now he is just eating up time at little costs because Philly is trying to get through the season.
He has made just two starts and given up just 2ER but don’t get caught thinking that means anything. He has not finished a season with an ERA under 4.00 since 2009.

It is just a matter of time before he gets hit.
New York
The Yankees saw their four game winning streak snapped against Detroit on Sunday. After pounding the Tigers for 30s runs in the first three games the league’s second most potent offense scored just four runs while Masahiro Tanaka was hit hard.
The Yankees should be looking forward to this series against the Phillies to pad their offensive stats.
They are a couple of victories behind the Rays and this is a series they have to win if they want to push for the division title.
Michael Pineda has been the Yankees best pitcher all season long.
He leads the team in every significant pitching category and is still doing amazing with his control averaging less than a walk per start. Even though Yankees Stadium is very hitter friendly he has been at his best at home.
He is 4-1 and his ERA of 2.36 is more than 2 runs better than on the road.
