The Mets outscored the Fish 23-16 in that one. We also got a preview of this pitching matchup, as Jarred Cosart opposed Dillon Gee in the opener of that series as well. New York won that game 7-5, with neither starter lasting through the sixth inning.

Dillon Gee pitched 5 2/3 innings in that one, allowing four earned runs on five hits, striking out seven. He left with his team trailing, but the Mets got to the Marlins in the bottom half of that inning.

Cosart exiting after retiring just one batter in the bottom half of the sixth, finishing with a line of 5 1/3 innings, allowing five earned runs on seven hits, striking out five.

The Mets scored 5.8 runs per game in that first series, but the Marlins have been hitting the ball quite well of late, and figure to be able to keep up.

The Marlins have scored better than six runs per game over their last five outings.

That includes strong scoring output from the Fish in their home games. In their previous home series which came way back in the second week of April, the team averaged five runs per game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

FREE Mets vs. Marlins Pick:

The Mets have enjoyed far more success in their home ballpark than they have on the road, but this is a pitching matchup that worked out well for them earlier this month.

Additionally, both teams are hitting the ball well and that figures to mean a fair number of runs in this game which has a low total installed.

MLB Betting Trends:

  • The Marlins are 1-4 in Cosart’s last five starts, and 2-5 in their last seven games when playing the opener of a series.
  • The Mets are 5-1 in Gee’s last six starts against the Marlins, and they are 4-1 in the last five meetings between these teams in Miami.
  • The over is 12-3-1 in the last 16 meetings between these teams, and it is 3-0-1 in the last four meetings between these teams in Miami.
  • The over is 5-1 in Gee’s last six starts in the opener of a series, and it is 4-1-1 in Gee’s last six starts overall.
