Colorado
The Rockies ended their long losing streak last night getting three runs in the top of the ninth to get the 5-4 victory. For some clubs that might spark some optimism but this group is still not hitting the way it should and the pitching is the worst in the Majors.

Lost in all the Tulo trade talk is that they would probably be better off dealing Carlos Gonzalez but it is hard to get much value for a hitter who is not even hitting his weight.
He did have a big blast last night so maybe things are turning
It is all relative but Eddie Butler has been the Rockies best starter this season. He has the best ERA among the starters but he has been playing with fire considering all of the free passes he has been giving up.

Until such time as he can move his K/BB ratio from 1/1 to a more palatable number it is hard to have a lot of faith in him.
You are getting a huge payoff if he comes through tonight though.
Los Angeles
The Dodgers are still in first place but you are not supposed to let a team snap a losing streak at your yard, certainly not the way the Rockies did last night.
Yes, this is probably just a blip on what will be a season that ends in the playoffs but it is one of those things that makes you wonder about the mental toughness of a team.
Everybody loses games but how you do makes a difference. L.A. is well set up for a bounce back performance this evening.
L.A. has a ton of money tied up in Clayton Kershaw and he has not gotten off to a great start.
You can harp on his ERA all you want but the fact that he is still whiffing hitters at a good clip which makes me think that he might be suffering from a bit of bad luck in terms of hit rate or BABIP.

Once that normalizes I think we will see the kind of dominating performance we have become accustomed to since he entered the league.
