Johnny Giavotella’s one out RBI single sparked a three-run eighth inning for the Angles who opened a three-game interleague set against the struggling Rockies with a 5-2 victory on Tuesday night at the Big A.

Now LA will look to make it three in row when they square off with Colorado on Wednesday looking to pull to .500 on the season.

The win was just the eighth at home for Los Angles, as the Rockies dropped to 11-18, and 7-8 on the road and 1-10 in their last 11.

Matt Joyce snapped a 0-for-12 slump, and drove in three runs and had a two-run double in the eighth for the Angels, who have won five of seven.

C.J. Wilson (2-2) picked up the win while Rafael Betancourt was saddled with the loss (0-1).

But perhaps the biggest story of the game for the Angles was that slugger Albert Pujols ended his 0-for-13 skid with an eighth-inning leadoff single, and after stealing his first base since Aug. 16, 2014, rumbled in for the go-ahead run.

Meanwhile, catcher Nick Hundley extended his hitting streak to 13 games in a Colorado lineup that is batting just .274 and have scored just 3.8 runs per game, while allowing opponents to bat .291.

Looking to reverse that trend, the Rockies will send lefty Jordan Lyles (2-3, 4.42 ERA) to the mound in game two on Wednesday. The 24-year-old has lost his last two starts, both against Arizona, including a four run nine hit outing on May 6. Lyles is 2-1 with a 5.82 ERA in four games against Los Angeles.

He will face off against right-hander Hector Santiago (2-2, 2.57 ERA) who will get his seventh start of the season for the Halos.

Santiago earned a no-decision after allowing just a single hit and four walks while striking out five in 6 1/3 innings of a 3-2 loss to Houston on Thursday.

Matt’s Free 4* Prediction:

Angels – The Rockies are 5-16 in their last 21 meetings with the Angels. And with the they have been playing of late, I expect that trend to continue.
