There are four teams currently between the Blue Jays and the final Wild Card spot in the American League. The team will enjoy a six-game home stand, and they may need to win each of those games if they hope to climb back into contention, starting with Monday’s game against the Cubs.

The team didn’t take care of business in Boston, getting swept out of town by the Red Sox. It wasn’t for lack of trying on the part of slugger Jose Bautista, who has seven home runs and 12 RBI over the course of his current 11-game hitting streak.

Adam Lind has also been swinging a hot stick for the Jays. He’s 9 for 18 over his last five games, and is hitting .321 for the season.

He’ll look to provide Marcus Stroman with some offense in this one.

Stroman has wins in back-to-back starts after a rough four-start stretch in which he went 0-3 with an 8.66 ERA. In his last outing, Stroman allowed two runs on seven hits in six innings of work in a 7-4 win over the Tampa Bay Rays.

He’ll get to face a struggling Cubs team that is coming off a series in which they scored a total of seven runs while getting swept by the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Cubs just can’t get anything going at the top of their order, with leadoff man Arismendy Alcantara in a 2 for 19 slump, and No. 2 hitter Javier Baez going 2 for 29 with 14 strikeouts in his last seven games.

[dfads params=’groups=63745&limit=1&return_javascript=0′]

The team is going to need a big game from starter Jacob Turner if they hope to keep pace. Turner has gone 1-1 with a 3.14 ERA in four appearances since joining the Cubs.

He picked up a win in his last start, allowing one run on five hits while striking out seven in 6 1/3 innings of work in a 4-2 victory over the Brewers.

Turner has never faced the Blue Jays, but he looks to be in tough against a hot-hitting Blue Jays squad. Turner has a 7.04 ERA in 10 career starts against American League opponents.

The Blue Jays simply outclass the Cubs in this matchup. Toronto needs these wins badly if they hope to achieve their goals, so there is no chance of them looking past the Cubs in this one, particularly not on their home field.

The play: Toronto -175, Under 8.5
