This is the lone interleague series this weekend but it is a good one between two winning teams.
Chicago
The Cubs dropped two of three at Cleveland despite outscoring the Indians by 10 runs.
That is the product of a 17-0 win in the middle of the series, more evidence of how good this team can be. Kris Bryant has been as advertised and now they have Kyle Schwarber with the team to give the lineup a little extra kick while they are playing in AL parks.
This team has a top ten pitching staff right now and as long as that stays true they are going to be in the race. The future is now.
Kyle Hendricks has been a nice surprise this season.
He is not tracking for a Cy Young Award but he has a better ERA than Jon Lester, the de facto ace of the team. He also has the only complete game and shutout on the staff and solid peripherals. In short he has become dependable with upside.

He has given up more than 2ER just once in his last five starts.
Minnesota
The Twins should be brimming with confidence right now. After dropping two to the Cardinals on the road they took both games at home yielding just two runs over the last couple of games combined.
I still see this group as a longshot for a playoff spot but perhaps they have already gotten over the hump. A visit from the Cubs is not going to be easy but Minnesota has been very good at home.
Their pitching has been very consistent of late which is surprising when you look at who they got.
It certainly looks like Phil Hughes’ pattern of alternating good and not so good seasons is going to continue. Last year Hughes was 16-10 for a bad Twins team but this year, even though the team has been having success he has a losing record and his ERA is more than a run higher than a year ago.
Hughes has just been giving up too many hits for his own good.
The Twins have a thin margin and he is exceeding it.
