The Blue Jays have historically had a ton of trouble when making the trip down to Tampa Bay, and they’ll turn to Drew Hutchison in the opener of this series in hopes of turning things around. However, taking to the road hasn’t been particularly kind to Hutchison this year.
Hutchison’s numbers at home are glowing. At the Rogers Centre, the righty sports a 2.38 ERA and 1.01 WHIP. When taking to the road, however, Hutchison has posted an 8.91 ERA and 1.89 WHIP.
The last time Hutchison took to the road was particularly forgettable. Toeing the rubber at Fenway Park, he failed to get out of the third inning against the Boston Red Sox, allowing eight runs on nine hits, walking three in 2 1/3 innings of work, surrendering three home runs on 70 pitches.
He bounced back in his next start at home against the New York Mets, tossing 5 2/3 shutout innings, striking out five while surrendering four hits and a walk while improving his record to 6-1.

The Rays counter with Matt Andriese. He’s served as a good luck charm for the Rays, as the team has picked up wins in each of his last six appearances. Over those six appearances, he’s posted a 2.01 ERA, which includes five innings of two-run ball against the Blue Jays.

Tropicana Field has been a puzzle that the Blue Jays just haven’t been able to solve, and as hot as their bats have been, runs in Tampa Bay have been hard to come by. Further to that, the Rays haven’t exactly been scoring runs in bunches themselves, making the under worth a look.
