Seattle vs Tampa Bay Pick

MLB Baseball betting action sees the Seattle Mariners taking on the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday May 25th at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, FL. Cappers Picks provides free MLB Baseball handicapping tips all season long.

The precise-throwing Rays (24-21) are leading the AL East division, though at only three games over .500, it’s not saying much about this slumping cluster of American League ballclubs.

These two teams were long identified as having slick pitching rotations coupled with pop-gun lineups, but Seattle (20-23) has done all it can to change the narrative in the past two off-seasons.

The Mariners now have offensive superstar 2B Robinson Cano and late-blooming and HR-crushing OF/DH Nelson Cruz in the mix.

Along with the ascendance of 3B Kyle Seager, they will ensure the M’s put more runs on the board in ’15.

Tampa Bay has taken pole position in the AL East thanks to its dominant pitching staff, though its offense seldom helps out.

Chris Archer has been fantastic, posting a 2.40 ERA to go with 70 strikeouts. Tonight’s starter, Jake Odorizzi has also been great, and this is with the absence of key cog Alex Cobb due to injury.

Brad Boxberger and Kevin Jepsen have also been marvelous in relief roles.

Considering the Rays also have Matt Moore and Drew Smyly on the payroll (and this is after letting James Shields and David Price walk the past couple of seasons) this franchise has a plethora of capable arms, if they can ever get them all healthy at one time.

If only the bats followed suit. Off-season acquisition Steven Souza Jr. has been a power threat and 3B cornerstone Evan Longoria is approaching the numbers he posted earlier in his career, but after that it’s been pretty brutal for Tampa’s bats.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention Logan Forsythe’s ability to hit for average and get on base, but for the most part, if Tampa Bay is going to beat you, it is with arms and not bats.

Seattle, meanwhile, is perhaps a sleeping giant in the AL West.

Several experts picked Seattle to appear in or maybe even win the World Series, but despite having elite pitcher Felix Hernandez, a deep rotation, hard throwers in the ‘pen and new power bats, it hasn’t translated in the win column for the M’s.

If upstart Houston comes back to Earth, Seattle should eventually join in the thick of the fight for the division later in the summer. One would think they are simply too good not to.

Yet it must occur one step at a time. Considering Seattle is eight games back of division-leading Houston, it has to start happening sooner rather than later.

Odorizzi has been awfully good so far, but the Mariners have the bats to inflict damage.

4* Free MLB Pick: Seattle 6, Tampa Bay 4

Coming off a listless loss to the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday, expect Seattle to come out firing and in doing so, take this first game of the series on the Gulf coast of Florida.
