Dodgers vs Giants Betting Pick / Preview (Aug. 1)

Shea weighs in with his MLB Predictions for Sunday night and the L.A. Dodgers vs. San Francisco Giants….Key trend, LA Dodgers are 1-4 SU in their last 5 games …

Sunday Night Baseball Pick: St. Louis Cardinals vs Chicago Cubs

Teams have begun the 2010 Major League Baseball season. It’s time to NOW bring your best baseball betting hat to the table for gambling on baseball in the 2010 season. Cappers Picks all season long provides MLB baseball gambling predictions, so check back often.

It’s not Kershaw vs Lincecum II, but it’ll do. Returning from his suspension after last week’s madness, Clayton Kershaw will once again take the hill against the Giants. Tiny Tim won’t get the nod for San Francisco this time but we could see more fireworks as the heated National League West rivalry resumes on Sunday Night Baseball.

ESPN Sunday Night Baseball Prediction (Shea Matthews’ record: 8-7)

Sunday, August 1, 8:05 p.m. ET

Los Angeles Dodgers (54-47, 3rd place in NL West)
San Francisco Giants I58-44, 2nd place in NL West)

Clayton Kershaw looks to continue a torrid July (3-1, 2.25 ERA) but he’ll have to keep the runs to a minimum, as Giants starter Matt Cain is no slouch either.

Clayton Kershaw (10-5, 2.96)
Matt Cain (8-8, 3.14)

Some people would say that Kershaw, now the Dodgers’ unquestioned ace, is still more of a thrower than a pitcher. His 2010 numbers suggest exactly that: a tight 2.96 ERA, a miniscule .219 opponents’ average, just seven homers allowed – but 56 walks. Kershaw is still in the business of trying to strike every guy out. Luckily for the Dodgers, he’s very good at that. Once he starts “pitching” and harnesses his stuff, he could be unstoppable.

In two starts against San Francisco this season, Kershaw hasn’t earned a decision, but he’s pitched very well, allowing five runs – three earned – over 13 innings while striking out 15.

Playing in Tim Lincecum’s shadow, Matt Cain is one of baseball’s most efficient and least appreciated starters. But despite his sparkling stats, the Dodgers have his number this year. Looking back further, many of them have stellar numbers against Cain throughout their careers.

James Loney bats .345 with 10 RBI in 29 at-bats versus Cain; he could do damage Sunday if he isn’t traded before then. Casey Blake (.300, two homers in 20 at-bats) and Rafael Furcal (.357 in 28 at-bats) also have Cain figured out.

But nobody owns Matt Cain quite like Andre Ethier. The Dodger outfielder is a .514 lifetime hitter against him – and a 35 at-bats, a decent sample size. Ethier hasn’t been the same since his injury earlier this season but perhaps Cain will lift him out of his funk.

The Giants and their fans will be especially hungry to solve Kershaw after his role in the beanball fest the last time they faced him. But Cain’s struggles against L.A. will probably prevent that from happening.
