In a surprising turn it is the Tigers are who looking to play spoiler this summer.

Detroit

The Tigers have given up on the season so the next six weeks are just going to be about whether they decide to stay respectable or fall of a cliff.

One thing that could help is the return of Miguel Cabrera, who may be back in action tonight. They still have some offense.

Actually some might be an understatement. Even though they traded Yoenis Cespedes a middle of the order of Miggy, Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez is pretty formidable, the latter Martinez already has 30 homers on the season. Rebuilding for next year won’t be too tough.

Alfredo Simon may have a 10-6 record but he is having a pretty typical NL to AL experience with his ERA jumping almost a run and a half. He is giving up more hit and more walks and when you do that you are going to have some challenges. Eight of his eleven road starts have gone over this season. This looks like another good spot to make that play.

Houston

The streakiness of the surprising Astros is going to keep things very interesting down the stretch in the AL West.

They are coming off a win over San Francisco on Wednesday but struggles during their recent road trip. That is no surprise but they balance that with the best home record in the American League.

Houston has the reputation of a slugging club and they do lead the Majors in dingers but I bet you can’t guess who is leading the club with 21 homers – that would be Luis Valbuena.  They do it with volume as 8 players have double digit homers on the season.

They strike out a ton too but when they make contact it goes a long way.

Dallas Keuchel continues to enjoy a great season.  Not the most dominant he is able to induce lots of weak content, which enables him to last deep into ball games – he is averaging more than 7 innings per start. He is coming off a loss in which he pitched pretty well at Oakland.

He has not lost back to back decisions all season long and has a 10-0 record at home this season so betting against him is not exactly wise.

4* MLB Betting Prediction:

The Astros are playing good ball and there is no reason for it to end tonight.

MLB Baseball Score Prediction:  Houston 6 – Detroit 3

I don’t normally suggest betting the run line but I think this is a good spot to do with with Keuchel on the mound for Houston.
