Boston fell to 4-6 on the season after losing to the Yankees 4-1 last night, despite  being one of the best teams at making pitchers work to get them out.

As a team Boston is batting .277 so far this season, while scoring 35 runs. They also have one of the highest on base percentages in the league.

Offensively, the Red Sox are led by Mike Napoli who has a .333 batting average along with two  homeruns and eight RBIs.

Meanwhile, the Yankees (5-5)  improved to .500 on the season following game one’s outcome, and like Boston, are stepping into the batter’s box as one of the best hitting team’s in the league.

The lineup is batting .271 with 33 runs and an on base percentage of .346. The Yanks’ are also slugging .392 so far this season behind team leader Yangervis Solarte, who is batting.429 with seven RBIs.

To counter that offense, the Sox will send veteran Jon Lester to the mound on Friday.

The left-hander lost his first outings this season, but turned in a solid performances. He gave up only two runs on six hits in seven innings of work against the Orioles in the season opener, and just two more runs  on seven hits in seven innings against the Brewers last weekend.

The lineup failed to provide any run support in those two games, managing only one run against the O’s before being blanked by the Brewers

New York will try and limit Boston’s offense for the second consecutive night, by giving the nod to starter C.C. Sabathia.

The lefty split his first two games of the season, losing to Houston after allowing six runs on eight hits, before winning last weekend against the Blue Jays. The big man is 10-11 with a 4.72 ERA in 27 career starts against Boston.

Matt’s Free Prediction:

Red Sox

As always, this should be a hard fought game as these two teams just don’t like one another.

If Boston can give a little more run support to Lester in this one, I expect the Red Sox to get the job done.
