The Nationals will send out Stephen Strasburg for this outing. He really settled down in his last start after some shaky outings. Coming off a start in which he allowed seven runs against the Milwaukee Brewers, Strasburg limited the Colorado Rockies to just a single run over 7 2/3 innings of work in a 7-1 victory.

Strasburg last faced the Orioles in 2012 when he gave up three runs over five innings of work, striking out eight.

Chris Tillman counters for the Orioles. He hit a major bump in the road from the end of April through his first start in June, but he’s really settled down since then. In his last five starts, Tillman has posted a 2.13 ERA after watching his season ERA climb nearly 3.5 points from the end of May to the start of June.

Tillman has helped the Orioles to three consecutive victories in his starts, though the last one wasn’t pretty. Tillman allowed four runs, three of them earned, on seven hits over 4 2/3 innings, walking four while striking out only two.

Tillman faced the Nationals last season and that outing did not go very well. The Orioles came away with a victory, but they needed nine runs and some strong bullpen play to pull it off. Tillman allowed six runs on eight hits, four of them home runs, over 4 2/3 innings of work.

The Orioles offer some value in this game given the high price, and the fact that Strasburg seems to be overvalued by oddsmakers and the general public alike. Even still the Nationals have just been too hot of late to fate.

With that said, there is some value in the over in this contest. Overs have been commonplace when Strasburg gets the nod. He hasn’t pitched nearly as well as the prices he’s been getting tabbed with would indicate, while Tillman has been prone to being lit up in the last couple of months.

While both teams send their aces out for this contest which comes in a pitcher-friendly park, neither has demonstrated an ability to consistently offer up the form that would justify such numbers.

The Nationals are 14-3 in their last 17 games as a home favorite, while the Orioles are 23-9 in Tillman’s last 32 road starts.

The over is 15-5-1 in Strasburg’s last 21 starts overall, and it is 7-1 in Tillman’s last eight starts as a road underdog.

The play: Over 7.5
